A5 16 Gabe Wins MEQ; Punches Ticket to Indy
Many Other Accomplishments to Celebrate; Including a Slew of Near Misses
March 28, 2019 -
A5 Family,
We're in the heart of Qualifier Season now; virtually every weekend we have teams competing for a coveted slot at Nationals. Big South and SRVA Regionals are the tournaments in which we have historically won most of our bids, but we always like to have several in our pocket prior to those events to relieve some of the pressure.
But - as any of our coaches will tell you - it is very difficult to qualify for Nationals at a National Qualifier - particularly in the Open Division. A5 16 Gabe won our 5th bid of the year at always-tough MEQ last weekend, and their story follows.

A5 16 Gabe Runs the Table
A5 16 Gabe led a stacked 16 Open field wire to wire last weekend to bring home top honors in the 16 Open division. Seeded #1, they breezed through their first five matches with little difficulty, and came from behind to win a three-set thriller against CVC 15-13 on day 2 to retain their top seed and remain in contention. They maintained their winning ways to set up another match versus CVC - this time for a bid. A5 dispatched them fairly easily the second time around, setting up the Championship Match against TAV.
TAV is currently the undisputed best club in America from a competitive standpoint, and their 16-1 team is widely thought to be their strongest team currently and one of their best ever. They entered the finals at MEQ with an 18-0 record in sets, not having allowed any team to score 20 points in any given set.
