Beach Season Wraps Up

August 22, 2016 - The A5 Beach season wrapped up with back-to-back weekends at Nationals. Perhaps a brief primer on Beach Nationals is in order:

Currently, there are 3 national bid tournaments for beach players: AAUs in Hermosa Beach, CA (2 days); USAVs in Milwaukee, WI (3 days) and Rox Nationals in Tavares, FL (3 days). 

The AAU and USAV bid tournaments occur on the same weekend, so it is impossible to compete in all three events. Several of our players went to two of the events, however, traveling either from AAUs in CA or from USAVs in WI to Rox in Tavares, FL.

The last couple months of the season have not only been the busiest of the season, but the hottest. Our athletes have been competing in temperatures in the mid to upper 90's, which is a testament to their endurance and fitness.

The players and families are happy to have the A5 Beach pop-up tents available to stay out of the sun.  Thanks to Uber Parent Mike Winn for setting up the tent with a generator to power a blender to make smoothies for the players. The Rox emcee came over to the tent to "live stream" the smoothie making process -- great PR for A5 Beach!

Two of our Beach teams brought home top honors from the Rox National Championship tournament in Tavares.
