Every so often, we have a "moment." Saturday belonged to 14 Karen. Up 12-9 in the first set against Cobb Atlanta 15-1 - a team they really, really wanted to beat - a lineup error was discovered that cost 14 Karen all 12 of their points. With the score now 9-0 in Cobb Atlanta's favor, 14 Karen buckled down and started to cut into the Cobb Atlanta lead. At 16-15, Cobb Atlanta was able to run off 5 straight to take a 21-15 lead, but again, 14 Karen stayed rock steady. At set point for Cobb Atlanta, 24-22, 14 Karen scored the last 4 points to win the set 26-24 to the loud cheers of the A5 faithful.
14 Karen then took control of the second set and earned the Saturday victory they wanted most.
The coaches learned to double-check the roster (and this happens more often than you know, but tends to be caught before the set starts). The officiating team learned to be more careful checking the lineup before each set. And the girls learned that they
can come back from a 9-0 deficit and finish strong because they are tougher than they knew. Now they know.
